19 Year Old Singer and Actress Halle Bailey Selected To Play Ariel in Disney’s Live Little Mermaid Film

On the heels of it’s Lion King Debut Disney just dropped the huge news that Halle Bailey, singer (Chloe X Halle) and actress (Grown-ish) has been pegged to play Ariel in its Full length Live Feature of  “The Little Mermaid”. Bailey, a protege of Beyonce (Nala in the Lion King Feature) is an up and coming star in her own right and has been making waves with her sister Chloe beside her for quite some time

The decision was made today, with the budding actress notified later Wednesday morning.

Mermaid is casting up, with Melissa McCarthyJacob Tremblay and Awkwafinain talks to star and lend their voices to other live-action and CG parts.

Rob Marshall is set to direct, after helming the studio’s sequel to Mary Poppins, Mary Poppins Returns.

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” said Marshall in a statement.

An early 2020 production start is being planned.
