The Unassisted Supremacy: Disney is the Queen of Pop

The headline says it all and I’m not taking it back.

If you’ve ever logged into Twitter Dot Com, you already know that we spend a lot of our time reminiscing about our childhoods. I’m 21, born in 1998, and I don’t know what category age group I fall into, but I do know everyone who I grew up with share this same opinion.

In a time where my Grandma wasn’t a fan of me watching BET or MTV so I snuck behind her back, or watched from the hallway with my hands behind my back while my cousins were indulging in the fruits of independence, I spent most of my time bouncing from Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and Nick (Channels 41, 42, 43!!), and I have to admit… They were dropping some heat!

Disney, despite them being such an annoyingly power company, definitely knew how to write songs and produce stars. They’re responsible for giving us Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus, Zendaya, and the list could go on. I may say this largely out of nostalgia, but I don’t remember there being a single bad song that came from Channel 42! Even the theme songs were on point.

Today, a lot of the people who started on Disney are still doing big things, whether it’s in music, fashion, acting or humanitarianism. Disney Empire continues to push out music and stars. Has the quality of the music decreased? I’ll clamp my tongue on that because I don’t wanna sound like a hater. But has the influenced decreased? Not one bit.

I don’t know how Pop stars like Justin Timberlake or Rihanna were keeping up when China Anne McClain dropped “Calling All the Monsters” or when Let it Shine gave us CoCo Jones, but I do know they were taking notes and that my lil behind was living for every moment!
