Film enthusiasts will have their shot at mixing and mingling with industry execs this month at the third annual Jackson Film Festival, July 24-29, at the Jackson Convention Complex, 105 East Pascagoula Street, Jackson, MS. Producer and organizer Maximus Wright says the festival takes an entrepreneurial approach as a step toward building the next generation of filmmakers.
Set to participate in the festival’s BEE Pitch are:
Ashley McFarlin, Vice President of Development at WETV of AMC Networks. In this role, she not only serves as a developer for original content, but also oversees current shows such as Brat Loves Judy and What Tha Flocka.
Carlos King, CEO of Kingdom Reign Entertainment. King has produced high-profile programs such as eight seasons of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes and The Four on Foxand has created Love & Marriage franchise which includes Huntsville and D.C., Styling Hollywood (Netflix) (OWN) and Hollywood Divas (TV One).
Chivon Ferguson, CEO of PGP Productions in Atlanta, Georgia. Her professional body of work includes production of major motion picture films, popular television shows, major label recording projects, celerity branding projects, non-profit fundraisers, and conferences.
Okema T. Moore, an actress, producer, writer, and director who started as a child actor on Sesame Street. Moore is an EMMY Nomination and member of the Producer’s Guild of America and premiered at Tribeca Film Festival. Her award-winning docu-series UNLADYLIKE2020 for PBS, was nominated for Best Actress in numerous indie film festivals and winning Best Screenplay and Best Short for her self-written short film Shh…Most recently Okema produced the BET docu-series Klutch Academy with celebrity sports mogul Rich Paul, is staring in Bradford Young’s upcoming IBM campaign #Hashtag the Hate and directing and show running BRIC TV’s first late night talk show, Hella Late! With Hollie Harper.
Returning movie star vet Tonea Stewart, of A Time to Kill and In the Heat of the Night will conduct the popular acting masterclass followed by Wright’s writing masterclass. Wright, a Jackson native, produced his first film Soul Damage in 2014 followed by its sequel My Name is Lola, in 2018. The festival’s Black Tie Gala fundraiser will be hosted by celebrity and actor Palmer Williams, Jr., and musical director Dexter Allen.
Nominations and awards for best actors, best short, best feature, and best documentary from more than 60 local, state, and national submissions will be announced.
