This is a coming of age tale set in the 90s, is centered around 9 and 10 year old cousins, Sam and Reggie. They embark on a wild adventure going through extraordinary lengths and overcoming hurdles to see their favorite rap duo Outkast perform.
Outgrown is Moss Point, MS born, NYC-based filmmaker Sam Hicks’ debut, and is directed/co-written by Huriyyah Muhammad, founder of the Black TV & Film Collective. The film stars Blasina Olowe as Sam and Howie Sheard as Reggie. Both characters are based on Sam’s own niece and nephew who were the inspiration behind the film. Currently making the rounds through the indie film festival circuit, the film has been very well received drawing praise and alot of laughs. Check out the trailer below:
