The Caring of Breonna Taylor

Caring takes up bandwidth…

We should care about more shit but that’s exhausting, so usually me not caring about everything I probably should care about doesn’t bother me. Only because I really try to care about the important shit, even if some of the important shit slips through the crack.I don’t beat myself up over not caring about all of the important shit.

It’s burdensome to care about all this shit…

The Caring of Breonna Taylor, or lack therefore, fell victim to her being a black woman and the lack of video. It shouldn’t take a black male being killed on camera to spark the kind of change we are currently witnessing. We should say their names. We should say ALL their names. Because every BLACK LIFE MATTERS. A lot of us cared, but a lot of us didn’t.

And it shouldn’t take a camera to say her name.

Hell, it shouldn’t take a black body to care.

But the caring of Breonna Taylor was right there. Her tragedy was something I knew about. Something I somewhat cared about. Black With No Chaser did a whole live, dedicated to her tragedy. We got community leaders, Breonna Taylor’s family attorney. They spoke so eloquently. They spoke facts. And they brought much needed awareness to this immensely tragic black death by the hands of white supremacy. And we got a lot of views. So many positive reactions. I had friends contact me about it.

But again, I didn’t do enough.

I should’ve done more to bring awareness to her tragedy. I should’ve done more to bring awareness to her martyrdom. I don’t beat myself up over not caring about all of the important shit. Beating yourself over not caring about every single important shit is bad for your mental health. Especially your black mental health during troubling times like these.

But I’ll beat myself up over this Breonna Taylor slip up for a while.

My bad, y’all. My bad, Breonna. I’ll do better.

Happy birthday, baby girl.
