
“When They See Us” is a Netflix series by Ava DuVernay that depicts the stories of five young black and Latino boys who were wrongly accused and convicted of a vicious crime in 1989 and the effects that the case had on their lives. It managed to incur the most Emmy Nominations for Netflix this year, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. The series racked up 16 of the 117 nominations garnered by Netflix. Netflix coming in second, only to the TV giant, HBO with 137 nominations.

DuVernay took to Twitter on Tuesday, thanking Netflix in response to the many Emmy nominations.

“Thank you @Netflix for believing in this story and letting me tell it the exact way I wanted,” she wrote. Appreciate the faith and the fearlessness.”
