This incident occurred at Griffin High School on Thursday November 5th and involves Assistant Principal Dr. Douglas Wheeler, GPD Cpl. Chris Webb and Griffin Police Department. The video is difficult to watch. (To be quite honest one of the first things that came to mind is- is this White Georgia man taking his frustrations with the current state of events – you know like Trump getting ousted- out on this young black woman?) I can’t confirm it but he certainly did not display any compassion nor the restraint one would want to see from an adult interacting with a high school student.

The young woman’s name is Jamaya Henry. We will find out more as soon as possible to update this story. We will speak up for this young woman and the young man that was trying to protect her. The young man (a juvenile) and young woman have been charged with felony obstruction and with disorderly conduct as well as disruption of a public school. (All of these charges are ridiculous).

“Wheeler was attempting to get a female to give him her information so that he could do a report. Wheeler asked me to assist in getting the female’s information. I asked the female several times to identify herself as she did not,” Webb stated to the-grip.net

“I advised the female that she needed to give me her ID or tell me her name as she still refused and walked away from me while I was still trying to investigate the situation,” Webb said. “After several attempts I advised the female that she was under arrest for obstruction as she continued to refuse to cooperate with me.”

“As I attempted to arrest the female (Henry) a black male stepped in front of the female and would not move. I advised the male several times to move as he did not,” Webb said.

From one of our BWNC fam:

“Yesterday an incident happened at my high school yesterday dealing with the police. All because a student left the corona sanctuary of a school to sit outside and wait for her bus in her own corner. In our school if your class is not near the gym it takes a long time to even get back to your class.

This is not the first incident like this at our school, it’s been instances like this before, but never to the point where 6 police cars pulled up for 1 girl. Please use your platform, she has not been able to speak with her mother. Because she is 17 which is the age in Georgia to be tried as an adult, she was held in the cell overnight. The administration sent out an email not even addressing the girl recording blaming her and not themselves or the police officers.

The instances before include our resource officer tasing students over cursing. It’s one of the school rules, and they take them to the station. Even if the students don’t curse at them.”

Update: Since our initial writing we have been able to discover that the young man in the video is Jamaya’s younger brother according to a source familiar with the situation. We will not share his name because he is currently a juvenile. Jamaya also had to go to the hospital to be checked out for injuries. The two teens now find themselves in a legal battle that is truly unwarranted. This is where we as a collective must step in and fight for them.

This story will be updated when new details arise.
